Santacruzan East London- May 31 1992.
On May 31, 1992, I photographed the annual Filipino Santacruzan pageant in Forest Gate, Newham, East London. Founded in 1981 by Andy Andres after his arrival from the Philippines, it was the first event of its kind in the UK.

On Monday 25th August 1992 after another refurbishment at The Watford Gap Services. it was time celebrate! So the management hosted a ‘Rock ’n’ Roll’ themed gala.

AMW has been described as a "pansexual beauty pageant" where the "bizarre is beautiful" The competition uses the same format as Miss World, whereby the contestants are required to wear three separate sets of costumes. In 1985 the organiser Andrew Logan intended the show to be held in Chislehurst caves in south east London, but was thwarted by local protesters over fears about the AIDS pandemic. So at short notice the event relocated to the brixton Academy in south London.
