Young people out and about on ‘Freedom day’. July 19 2021.
Young people on Brighton’s North laine on the so called ‘Freedom Day’ when most Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted by the government in the UK. With the majority of young people still not vaccinated, despite rapidly rising Covid cases and deaths and with hospital and ICU and admissions above the point when restrictions were first introduced in April 2020.
Jewish Holocast Memorial Day - Stamford Hill London 27 January 2022.
Jewish Holocaust Memorial Day 27 January 2022. Berger and Twersky convenience store on Amherst Park, Stamford Hill, London. As the owner Mr Berger told me, “its like stepping back in time”, - There were products I haven’t seen since I was a kid. Berger and Twersky serves the largest community of Hasidic Jews in Europe, and with Anti semitism on the rise again across Europe and the UK there has also been a rise in hate crime in the Stamford Hill Hasidim community. Only the day before I took this photo an elderly jewish baker and a customer were violently assaulted with a bottle outside his small community kosher bakery on Cadoxton avenue. This happened on the eve of Holocaust Memorial Day, but thanks to the CCTV and the local Shomrim - which literally translates as “watchers, guards or Watchmen” - the perpetrator was arrested.
