These images form part of my ongoing British archive. Made as the glitzy boom-to-bust decade of the 1980s drew to a close, and on the cusp of rapid social change, they record everyday life playing out on the streets of a city yearning for better times to come. It is the people, communities and public spaces that make up London’s character, along with its protests, struggles, moments of joy and moments of celebration. I took these photographs as quick visual notes—just a small personal record of fleeting encounters in a fast changing city.
